Herbert Tiemens

Herbert Tiemens is a nationally and internationally respected practitioner and thought-leader with over 20 years of experience in cycling policies, city planning and urban design. Based in Utrecht, Netherlands, he works on top-level practices to shape happy cities in the Netherlands and abroad.
In recent years he has advised and collaborated with cities, agencies and best-practice developers around the world, including the cities of Copenhagen, Dublin, Helsinki, Washington DC and numerous cities and projects in the Netherlands. Currently he is working at the province of Utrecht to implement cycling strategies and representing the province for cycling affairs. Herbert is member of the advisory board of Fietsberaad, the Dutch knowledge centre on cycling policies and contributed to the design manual for cycling in the Netherlands. He has a broad knowledge of sustainable urban developments and cycling. In his expertise he connects stakeholders and links short term measures with strategic long term goals. Herbert has a degree in Urban Planning and is specialized in traffic planning.
